Romualdez: PWD law to be implemented soon!

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES – Persons With Disabilities (PWD) in the Philippines will soon feel the “malasakit” or care of the government of President Duterte after the signing of the IRR or Implementing Rules and Regulations of the PWD Law according to it’s principal author, former Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

The PWD measure was one of the last signed into law during the term of former President Benigno Aquino despite Romualdez coming from the minority opposition. According to Senator Sonny Angara, then Congressman Martin Romualdez was relentless in convincing other congressmen and Senators to ensure the passage of the PWD Law.  During the interview with the press, both stated that they will fight for any moves to remove portions of the law as originally crafted.

More benefits are solidified and enhanced under the new PWD law like the 20% discount on basic goods, healthcare services and entertainment, but most important of all is the removal of the 12% vat on purchases made by the PWD for their personal consumption. It also provides for a tax incentive deduction of at least 25,000 pesos for people taking care of PWDs in their families.

According to Romualdez, the Malasakit slogan which he used and President Duterte also adopted during their campaign will be felt worldwide as it will benefit the OFWs who may suffer accidents in their places of work. He said that when they come back, they will feel that the government truly appreciates their contributions to the Philippine economy.pwd-irr-signing
